Mars Express Orbiter - A probe orbiting Mars to photograph, map and study it and it's atmosphere.

Mission Facts:

The Mars Express Orbiter is currently orbiting Mars.

The Beagle 2 Lander never made contact with Mars after leaving the orbiter.

The Mars Express Mission is a project controlled by the ESA.
- The orbiter and the lander flew to Mars in the same rocket.
- The Beagle 2 Lander landed on Mars on December 25, 2003.
- Unfortunately, they lost contact with the lander during landing. ( group mates, help me varify.)
- Beagle 2 was supposed to operate on the Martian surface for 180 days. "It had a digging arm to take soil samples for investigating various instruments. " ( #1)
- Mars Express main purpose was to take high-resolution pictures of the Martian surface. ( please check)

Importance of mission:
This mission has beeen only partially succesful due to the loss of the Beagle 2 Lander. The Mars Express Orbiter however is extremely useful in collecting valuable information.
