heliopause

 wiki Word:  Heliopause

Pronuciation:  He-lee-o-pause

Definition: The heliopause is located at the edge of the heliopause, (a heliosheath is made by solar winds blowing from the sun.) which is at the end of every galaxy. It's like a little bubble at the end of the galaxy, and once you pass through it  the sun no longer has any influence on you.

(If that wasnt technical enough for you, use this definition that I borrowed form Wikkipedia:

The heliopause is the theoretical boundary where the Sun's solar wind is stopped by the interstellar medium; where the solar wind's strength is no longer great enough to push back the stellar winds of the surrounding stars.)

Yet another Diagram . . .

Slightly off topic, but still impressive. This is a artist's rendering of the Heliosphereic current sheet. Liek a ballerina's skirt (Almost.)

is considered to be the largest structure in the solar sytem. This image however, only shows the heleiosphereic current sheet out to the orbit of Jupitier.

To save some space, I'll post this link to the next picture, which is a diagram (Shocker!) that shows a pretty good cross section of the solar system, and show the heliosphere and

and heliopause very well.

~After 31 years of traveling through space, the Voyager Mission has reached our heliopause, and are about to leave the sun's influence.

~ It is over 100 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun.

~ Every universe has a heliopause.

~The heliopause is often described as a 'bubble.'

~ There is little known about the helioseath, heliosphere, and heliopause, but strange things are happening to the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft, but how it will effect them at the end is still unclear.

~ The heliopause is thought to be about 10 astronomical units (AU) thick.

~The heliopause is about 23 billion kilometers from the sun.

Lincs words to use:

Helium    Helioseath    Heliopause    Heliosphere

Reminding word: Helium

When I think of helium, I think of that chipmunk movie. I mean, how else would they get their voices so high unless they chugged helium? And then they’ve got those puffy, bubble like cheeks, which is kinda like the Heliopause at the end of the galaxy. (It [the Heliopause] has been described as a bubble numerous times.) To remember the whole “pause” part, I just imagine them singing and shoving a cork in their mouth, ‘cause then the sound is paused, and therefore it has no effect on you. And, if you put it all together, it pretty much gives the definition of Heliopause, which is basically a bubble (cheeks) created from solar wind located at the end of the galaxy, and once you pass through it (or shove a cork in it), the sun (the singing) has no effect on you.

SO WHAT??? SECTION: Why are we studying this term? Why do you need to understand this word to be sucessful in science? How does this term apply to any of our class labs or the real world?

Since this is very much part of our solar system, it obvoisly (SPELL CHEK!!! ><) effects us becuase of that. However, aside from the plain view, the heliopause could greatly effect our spacecraft, wich would in turn effect our knowledge of the universe. As the next generation of scienctists, it could be our job to perfect the design of a spacecraft so that it could withstand whatever the heliospere is capable of throwing out at us. The heliopause is pretty much a huge staple of our galaxy. It might not directly apply to any of our labs, but it is part of our galaxy, and therefore it needs to be understood. Who really knows what the heliopause could say about how much we know? (Or don't know.) At the edge of the solar system, the heliopause, and indeed the heliospere itself remains very much a mystery.
