The Solar Sytsem consists of the Sun and objects and planets rotating around it (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, ?Pluto?).

We are studying this term because we live in the solar system. If we didn't know what the solar system was we wouldn't know what we live in. Also to know how small the solar system is compared to the universe is a very important thing because then you can tell how much is out there and what the possibilities are in all those different places. This is a basic thing in science that you would use a lot, so to be a succesful scientist this is a have to know.
